Oniss

Oniss are a slender serpent people hailing from Hyperboria. They are known for their incredible alchemy and strange metallurgic prowess. Many races fear their natural poison while others see them as a powerful ally.

Physical Description:Oniss are a lithe and slender race, about a half foot shorter than most humans. They are generally humanoid in appearance and have greatly varied scale color. Many, especially females also have head-fins of various design and appearance. A few Oniss even have fur like patches growing in various symmetry along their bodies. All Oniss have a long scaly tail.

Society:There are few Oniss outposts outside of Hyperboria, and most serve as research institutes that pay homage to the Grand Library. Oniss are not known for frequently squabbling amongst their own people and most law enforcement is solely for dealing with outsiders. Every Oniss must embark in a Life Experiment in which they donate the findings of an elaborate experiment of their choice to the Grand Library to further the knowledge of their people. Oniss are generally characterized to have a great love of alchemy, science, and knowledge.

Relations:Oniss see all other races at best as naive, and at worst as playthings. On the whole however Oniss are typically good natured and patient with the other races. Oniss do not get along well with the Karisen however and are currently in the midst of a 100 year long war. Occasionally the Oniss will raise members of other societies as their own as part of their Life Experiment.

Alignment and Religion:The two main sects of Oniss either worship Cotul the snake god, or are atheistic, appreciating the arcane powers as a whole. In general Oniss desire law and order. They need a strong sense of control which is why their race is so highly experiment bound. Sometimes of questionable morals, Oniss society leans toward being both lawful and neutral.

Oniss Racial Traits:

+2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom: Oniss are lithe and intelligent, but also skittish and absentminded.

Medium:Oniss are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Darkvision:Oniss can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Natural Armor:Oniss are especially scaly in vital areas, giving them +1 natural armor.

Normal Speed:Oniss have a base speed of 30 feet.

Oniss Resistances:Oniss receive a +2 racial bonus to resist the effects of poison.

Oniss Alchemy:Oniss receive a +2 racial bonus to Craft (Alchemy) checks.

Natural Bite:Instead of a regular attack, an Oniss may make a natural attack which they are automatically proficient with that deals 1d6 piercing damage.

Poisonous: Once per day, after sucessfully biting an opponent an Oniss may choose to try to poison them. Oniss poison is Fort DC 10 + 1/2 character level, and causes 1 Con damage per round for 4 rounds. Cure is one save.

Languages:Oniss begin play speaking Common and Oniss. Oniss with high intelligence may choose from the following: Undercommon, Draconic, Elven, Terran, and Orc.
